Cuyahoga County

Administration Headquarters

In 2010, the citizens of Cuyahoga County, Ohio’s most populous county, voted to abolish and reform the county government. As a result, a new centralized administrative headquarters facility was needed to consolidate numerous disconnected properties into a new 220,000 square foot facility. As part of an overall facility consolidation plan, this new facility serves residents more efficiently while saving the tax payers an estimated $84 million over the next 20 years.

The $80 million project is the result of a unique partnership between Cuyahoga County and Geis Companies, a local, private design-build firm. Geis will lease the building to Cuyahaga County over the next 27 years with a $1 buyout at the end of the lease.

The new facility will house approximately 600 county employees across nearly two dozen agencies and departments. SoundCom was awarded a multi-million dollar audio visual contract which included numerous conference rooms, meeting spaces, committee rooms, training rooms, council chamber, and a state-of-the-art broadcast production studio.

Council Chamber
To more effectively connect the county executives with its citizens, the new council chamber was designed to be open, bright, and rich with collaborative technology. The council chamber features state-of-the-art digital projection supplemented by numerous large, flat panel LCD displays allowing the public to clearly view materials being shared during an open session.

A series of Vaddio robotic cameras are installed throughout the chamber which can be configured to capture all activities during a meeting.

The council chamber features an advanced audio system with a cutting-edge Biamp digital signal processing system delivering crisp, highly intelligible sound with flexible controls for the moderators.

The entire audio visual system is operated and controlled through a Crestron distribution and control system utilizing Crestron’s DigitalMedia platform. This technology bridges the gap between legacy analog devices and todays all digital devices while reducing cabling costs. Council members and guests are able to connect virtually any source, like laptop computers, and share content effectively.

The council chamber, in addition to several other rooms, are tightly integrated with the broadcast production studio so county media and communications staff members can capture all meetings and events and produce county specific content as desired.

Committee Rooms
While the council chamber is an open public space, county officials needed numerous private meeting spaces to collaborate. The committee rooms enable effective and efficient meetings by providing technologies similar to the council chamber but with a reduced number of displays.

Each committee room has extensive connectivity utilizing the Crestron DigitalMedia platform with easy-to-operate Crestron touch screen control panels. With laptop connections throughout each room, committee members and guests are able to share content quickly and easily .

Each room features a highly intelligible audio system managed by a Biamp AudiaFlex digital signal processing system. Audio adjustments including volume levels and mute are easy to control and change as needed.

Broadcast Production Studio
A cutting-edge digital broadcast production studio was installed by SoundCom which allows the county media and communications staff members to develop high quality content quickly and efficiently.

SoundCom installed a large cyclorama allowing the county to produce content using virtual sets while also producing traditional studio shows. A number of studio-grade cameras were installed to enable flexible productions.

At the heart of the production studio is a fully integrated Grass Valley Stratus workflow production suite, complete with a full ingest and playout system, production SAN, edit suites, production switching, and advanced archive system.

The studio includes a large Grass Valley K2-Summit 3G production SAN with hundreds of hours of storage which is integrated and managed by the Grass Valley Stratus workflow management software. County media producers are able to control all aspects of the production system in real-time using a simple, configurable interface operating on standard computer workstations.

A Grass Valley Director production switcher was provided and installed. This new, revolutionary platform delivers powerful, broadcast television performance in a small, compact footprint and is incredibly easy to use.

Several Grass Valley EDIUS Elite editing systems were installed and placed directly on the K2 SAN giving editors immediate access to content being captured and can even edit content as it is being acquired for fast turn-around times.

The entire system is protected with a new Spectra Logic long term storage archive system and is fully integrated into the Grass Valley Stratus production suite. County media and communications members can quickly find archived content using keyword searches in Stratus, and have content restored from archive without having to use additional software tools.
