UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex

The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the official practice and training facility of the Pittsburgh Penguins® and includes over 25,000 square feet of team space, including a world-class locker room and workout facilities, a 30-seat tiered video theatre, a full-service kitchen and team lounge, and administrative offices for the hockey operations staff.

Beyond A Skate Rink
This 185,000 square foot facility features a wide range of amenities including two full-size hockey rinks, hockey skills training areas, and a resistance skating lane with synthetic ice. The facility includes 14 locker rooms and seating capacity for 1,500 fans.

As a medical facility, 54,000 square feet of clinical space has been carved out for a physical therapy gym, onsite MRI and X-RAY imaging, aquatic therapy, and 24 patient exam rooms. It truly is a state of the art hockey-focused medical and training center.

The facility also features the latest in sound and video technology. Sound blankets the entire facility and is an integral part of the overall experience.

The ice rinks sound systems feature EAW QX and MK series high-performance loudspeakers delivering arena-like performance throughout each rink with a high level of speech intelligibility. All public spaces including lobbies, lounges, dining areas, event rooms, and more all utilize carefully selected speaker solutions designed to drive high-quality sound while also respecting the visual aesthetics of the venue.

The weight and rehab rooms are built for high energy workouts featuring JBL Professional loudspeakers while the retail areas feature background music systems ideal for casual shopping.

The entire audio system is fully networked and managed with a new Symetrix Edge DSP network utilizing a DANTE backbone enabling easy routing of virtuall any audio source to any destination within the facility.

The video systems within the facility are just as robust as the sound systems featuring nearly 90 high definition flat panel displays installed throughout the facility. Video is distributed using the Crestron DigitalMedia platform moving high definition video over Cat-6 cable throughout the venue.

All of the systems are centrally controlled using a Crestron control system working in concert with Symetrix ARC controllers. Administrative staff are able to operate the entire system from anywhere in the facility utilizing hard wired touch panels, network connected PC’s and wireless tablet devices.

To better accommodate press announcements and public meetings, a complete broadcast wiring infrastructure was installed including an outdoor pedestal for mobile production and news trucks to connect to the facility.
