Cleveland Clinic Foundation

In the 1950’s, Warrensville Heights was mostly farmland with sheep grazing on the open pastures. Two groups of enterprising physicians toured the landscape and purchased acreage for two different kinds of hospitals. Each dreamed of achieving new levels of accessibility and quality in the delivery of healthcare for the rapidly growing community.

Brentwood Hospital and Suburban Community Hospital both opened in 1957 as next-door neighbors, separated by a creek. Their two different approaches to patient care were innovative, but also sources of early rivalry. While competition for patients was fierce, the physicians also consulted each other on various medical issues and cases in the best interests of the surrounding communities.

After many years of commitment to patient care excellence, the two small hospitals merged to form South Pointe Hospital, which continues to serve the community’s healthcare needs. As a teaching hospital, South Pointe passes its legacy of commitment on to new generations of visionary physicians.

As part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, today South Pointe Hospital leverages powerful technology to achieve and validate the performance of all staff members, improve overall patient satisfaction, and increase response times.

Facility Wide Integration
Improving patient response and satisfaction levels starts with effective communication. SoundCom worked closely with South Pointe Hospital nurse managers, administrators, and senior executives to design and implement a communication and patient workflow system to maximize efficiencies throughout the entire facility.

SoundCom deployed the Rauland Responder 5 Nurse Call System, a core integration platform for a wide range of systems, throughout the 173-bed acute care hospital.

Customized Staff Terminals
Every patient room is equipped with a customized staff terminal configured to match the exact patient workflow requirements. These dynamic staff terminals feature large, color touch screen displays, interfaced to mobile devices and provide full two-way communication.

Customization automates patient workflow triggers enabling staff members to respond with pre-defined, intelligent information. These custom triggers help eliminate lost time, driving response times and patient satisfaction levels up.

Locator Integration
SoundCom integrated the Rauland Responder 5 Nurse Call System with a Versus MapView real-time locator system. This system tracks both staff members and equipment assets, delivering real-time location information.

By integrating Versus technology with the Responder 5 Nurse Call System, hospital management can monitor response times from patient generated calls and enable the nurse call system to automatically route patient calls to an immediate-care nurse with virtually no manual intervention. This places the focus on patient care, not system operation.

Advanced Reporting
With the Rauland Responder 5 Nurse Call System, nursing management has unprecedented access to a number of advanced reporting and software tools aimed at discovering patient workflow efficiencies and correcting problems that may otherwise not be visible.
